Assistant Attorney General

Opinions, Appeals, and Ethics - Full-Time; Anchorage or Juneau Office

The State of Alaska, Department of Law is recruiting for one attorney to serve in the Opinions, Appeals, and Ethics Section of the Civil Division.

Position Description

The Opinions, Appeals and Ethics Section in the Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a full-time appellate attorney. This position can be filled either in Anchorage or Juneau. The attorney’s primary responsibility will be to brief and argue appeals, including child-in-need-of-aid cases, generally before the Alaska Supreme Court.  Some travel within Alaska may be required.

Prior appellate experience is preferred.  Applicants must have strong research, writing, communication, and time-management skills. Salary will depend on the background and experience of the selected candidate, and a comprehensive state benefits package is provided.  Department attorneys are in the partially-exempt state service and serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General.

A comprehensive state benefits package is provided for regular, full-time, partially-exempt (PX) positions.  State attorneys are in the partially-exempt service and serve at will, at the pleasure of the Attorney General.

Candidates must submit a cover letter and resume that includes a complete history of education and professional work experience and identifies at least three professional employment references.
