Assistant District Attorney
District Attorney's Office – Full-Time; Anchorage
The Anchorage District Attorney’s Office is recruiting to fill a full-time prosecutor position. The position requires frequent court appearances in the superior and district courts. There is significant trial work, pre-trial motion practice, daily court hearings and some post-conviction and appellate work. There are opportunities for travel in connection with trial work in other court locations, such as Unalaska, Naknek, and Sand Point.
Anchorage is the largest office in the Criminal Division. This is a good location to spend your entire career, or to start out and receive some basic training before transferring to one of the rural offices. Applicants should have strong oral advocacy skills. Prior trial experience and experience in the practice of criminal law is a plus, but is not required. This position requires the ability to think critically and reason logically; the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a deadline controlled atmosphere; and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously.
Salary is determined by the legal background and experience of the selected candidate with a range between approximately $64,000 - $93,000 to start. Promotions are provided as certain experience levels are reached. Regular salary increases are provided every 1-2 years. A comprehensive state benefits package is provided, including 21 days of personal leave for new employees, which increases over time; a generous Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) in which the state provides a 6.13% match of your gross pay (this system takes the place of social security in Alaska); a PERS retirement account in which the state matches pre-tax contributions of up to 5% of gross eligible salary; options for deferred compensation; life, health, dental and vision insurance; and assistance with moving expenses.
