Oil & Gas Attorney
Oil & Gas Section - Full-Time; Anchorage
(position 20-OG-02; open until filled)
The attorney hired for this position will represent and advise the State of Alaska in both litigation and transactional work on natural resource matters that involve significant state revenues and interests. The attorney primarily will represent and advise the Department of Natural Resources and Department of Revenue on a diverse range of legal matters, which may include leasing, permitting, tax, and royalties. The attorney also will be responsible for providing aid to state agencies in legislative and regulatory matters, including the review, analysis, drafting, and promulgation of state statutes and regulations. The selected candidate will practice in the state and federal courts, including both trial and appellate courts, and before administrative agencies. Some travel may be necessary.
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and have a strong knowledge of general legal principles and practices. Qualified applicants must have excellent communication, oral advocacy, writing, and time management skills, and must exercise good judgment. The ability to handle a high volume of cases in a fast-paced work environment is essential. Applicants must have strong oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and an interest in working on complex cases. Applicants should be highly motivated and able to work as a member of a team with minimum supervision.

Salary will depend upon the legal background and experience of the selected candidate. The State provides a comprehensive state benefits package to regular, full-time, partially exempt positions.
