Devon Brown Indicted for Attempted Murder at Carrs

April 28, 2017

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) Yesterday, 18 year old Devon Brown was indicted for 16 felony counts, including attempted murder in the first degree, in connection with a shooting at the Aurora Carrs on April 22, 2017.

At approximately 6:48 a.m. on April 22, 2017, Anchorage Police were dispatched to the Carrs Store at 1650 West Northern Lights for a reported shooting. Officers determined that a group created a disturbance in the store and ultimately got into an altercation with several employees. Witnesses reported that one of the young men fired several rounds into the store. One of the store employees was shot twice and treated at the hospital. Anchorage Police were able to identify Brown as the suspect who fired the rounds.

If convicted at trial, Brown faces a sentence of five to 99 years in prison for the attempted murder in the first degree charge. A defendant’s sentence is determined by the judge who must consider the circumstances of the offense, the impact on the victim and the community, and the potential for rehabilitation of the defendant. The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Brown in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He is being held on bail requiring a $50,000 cash or corporate appearance bond, a $5000 cash performance bond and a court-approved third party custodian.
