Grand Jury Indicts Two Anchorage Men for Eklutna Homicide

November 20, 2018

(Anchorage, AK)—Yesterday, an Anchorage grand jury indicted Marquis Eloi and Scotty Mataia on Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, Tampering with Evidence, and other charges related to the sale of illegal drugs and the possession of weapons.

Marquis Eloi and Scotty Mataia are alleged to have murdered David Cargill. The two men believed that Cargill was involved in a drug investigation targeting Eloi. Cargill’s body was found in the woods near the Eklutna Power plant on the Old Glenn Highway in mid-October 2018.

A charging document is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is being prosecuted by the Office of Special Prosecutions in Anchorage. The maximum sentence if convicted of murder is 99 years.
