Anchorage Man Indicted on Multiple Counts for Sexually Abusing Minors

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) On February 21, 2018, 30 year-old Erick Gadiel Umanzor was indicted on numerous charges for sexually abusing two minors in Anchorage. Umanzor was indicted on two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First Degree; four counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree and two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree. The charges stem from incidents that occurred in January and February 2018.
If convicted at trial Umanzor faces a sentence of up to 99 years, and is subject to a presumptive term of imprisonment of between 25 to 30 years for each of the sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree counts. The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Umanzor is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Currently Umanzor is in the custody of the Department of Corrections and will be arraigned in Anchorage Superior Court on February 23, 2018.
