Anchorage Man Indicted in January 2018 Homicide

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) On Thursday, July 12, 2018, Anchorage District Attorney Richard Allen announced that an Anchorage grand jury indicted 18 year old Austin Cottrell for Murder in the Second Degree, Kidnapping, and Robbery in the First Degree for his involvement in the death of Carl Bowie, Jr., on January 28, 2018.
The Anchorage Police Department received several 911 calls on the night of January 28, 2018, and responded to the Penguin Trailer Court off of Spenard Road where they found Bowie, Jr., dead inside a residence. Witnesses reported seeing several individuals running from the scene.
The Anchorage Police Department’s Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate others’ involvement in the homicide. Anyone with information about this case, including other potential victims, should contact Detective David Cordie with the Anchorage Police Department at (907) 786-8679.
The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Cottrell is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his
guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
