Anchorage Man Indicted for Attempted Murder of Juvenile

(Anchorage, AK) – Today, an Anchorage grand jury indicted 22-year-old John-Rexie Lagman of Anchorage for Attempted Murder in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the First Degree, and one count of Assault in the Third Degree.
The charging document alleges that on July 2, 2019, Lagman and numerous other young adults and juveniles gathered at Williwaw Elementary School to engage in a fight. Lagman brought a gun to the fight. During the fight, the victim in this case R.T., is alleged to have stabbed Lagman and others. R.T. then ran away and Lagman fired two shots at R.T. as he ran away. R.T. sustained life-threatening injuries as a result.
If convicted at trial, the defendant faces a sentence of up to 99 years imprisonment for the attempted murder charge. In addition, he faces up to 20 years imprisonment on each of the first-degree assault charges and up to 5 years imprisonment for third-degree assault charge. The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Lagman is currently in the custody of the Department of Correction. His arraignment is scheduled for July 23, 2019.
