Seward Woman Indicted on Murder, Theft, Tampering Charges
October 20, 2020
(Anchorage, AK) – On Thursday, October 15, 2020, Sarah Jane Dayan, 35, was indicted by grand jury on one count of Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Vehicle Theft and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence. The charges arose in connection with the shooting death of Keith Huss of Seward, Alaska, on September 29, 2020. Court records have established that the day before the shooting, Mr. Huss had been approved as Dayan’s third party custodian in three criminal cases in Homer.
If convicted at trial on the charge of Murder in the First Degree, Dayan faces up to 99 years imprisonment. All charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Dayan is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections, held on $500,000 bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned before the Superior Court in Anchorage on Tuesday October 20, 2020.
