North Pole Man Indicted For Sexual Assault

February 26, 2021

(Fairbanks, AK) On February 22, 2021, forty-four-year-old John Atkins was indicted on six counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree and one count of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree. The charges allege that Atkins invited the victim to his residence after meeting up with her at a local establishment. The charges further allege that after initially consensual sexual activity, Atkins committed several serious sexual offenses against the victim.

If convicted at trial, Atkins faces a sentence of up to 99 years on each count of Sexual Assault in the First Degree.

The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Mr. Atkins is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Atkins is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He is being held on bail requiring a $250,000 cash performance bond. Atkins is expected to be arraigned in Superior Court in Fairbanks at 1:30 p.m. on March 3, 2021.
