Two Indicted for Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Manslaughter, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident

(Juneau, Alaska) – On June 24, 2021, a Juneau grand jury indicted Joseph R. Schultz and Marisela Velazquez for the murder of Dylan Haisler. The incident occurred on October 6, 2020 in the area of Glacier Highway and Shell Simmons Drive.
Schultz and Velazquez are each charged with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Robbery in the First Degree, Manslaughter, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Following their indictment, arrest warrants issued for both Schultz and Velazquez in the amount of $100,000 each.
Shultz was arraigned in superior court on June 25, 2021, and bail was set at $100,000 cash performance. The arrest warrant for Velazquez is still pending.
The case is being prosecuted by the Juneau District Attorney’s Office. If convicted at trial, Schultz and Velazquez face up to 99 years in jail. The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Shultz and Velazquez are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
