Job description
The Commercial, Fair Business & Child Support (CFBCS) section is recruiting for an attorney primarily assigned to represent the Division of Insurance. This is a rare opportunity within the Department of Law - a hybrid criminal and civil position. This attorney will represent the Division of Insurance in criminal insurance fraud matters as well as handle administrative proceedings, and civil enforcement matters related to the regulation of insurance under Title 21 of Alaska Statutes. The attorney will also represent the division in administrative adjudications of agency enforcement matters before the Office of Administrative Hearings or in appeals of final agency decisions before the superior court or the Alaska Supreme Court. In addition, the attorney will provide legal advice and drafting assistance to the division on regulations and legislation and may be assigned to defend civil lawsuits brought against the division. This attorney will also advise the Violent Crimes Compensation Board and the Department of Revenue on issues related to charitable gaming.

Qualifications
Applicants for this position should have prior experience prosecuting felonies. Prior experience in administrative adjudications or insurance is highly desirable but not required. Strong writing and analytical skills are important, as well as the ability to work closely with agency clients.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
