James Scott Named Juneau District Attorney

Juneau, Alaska – The Department of Law announced today that James Scott will replace Dave Brower as Juneau District Attorney.

Scott is currently an assistant district attorney in the Ketchikan District Attorney’s Office. He has worked for the department in that capacity since 1999. Prior to that, he worked in Illinois for several years as a prosecutor and in private practice.

“Mr. Scott has had a great deal of experience and success handling all levels and types of criminal cases from traffic offenses to domestic violence cases to murder trials,” said Deputy Attorney General Rick Svobodny. “He is a dedicated prosecutor who will serve the Juneau community well as district attorney.”

Scott replaces Dave Brower who will retire from state service effective April 30. Brower has been with the Department of Law for nearly 22 years, working in both the criminal and civil divisions. He also spent more than eight years working for the state as an officer in the Department of Corrections prior to pursuing a legal career.

“Mr. Brower has had an impact across the state from his criminal and civil work in both Nome and Juneau, to his statewide work as a traffic safety resource prosecutor helping reduce the incidence of driving-related crimes,” Svobodny added. “He has been a dedicated public servant in Alaska for almost 30 years and will be missed.”
