National Association of Attorneys General Bestows Best Brief Award on Alaska
June 19, 2013
Today, the Alaska Department of Law was honored to receive the Best Brief Award from the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). NAAG bestowed the award on six Attorney General offices around the United States, including Alaska, for exemplary briefs submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court. The panel selecting the winners is made up of eight independent U.S. Supreme Court experts, each of whom is a leading member of the U.S. Supreme Court bar.
The Alaska Attorney General's office was recognized for its amicus brief in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder, which challenged the constitutionality of the federal preclearance requirement under the Voting Rights Act. The award recognized the work of Solicitor General Joanne Grace, Assistant Attorney General Margaret Paton Walsh, and Assistant Attorney General Ruth Botstein.
