Anchorage Man Convicted in May 2015 Painting Contractor Shooting
October 31, 2016
(Anchorage, AK) – On October 31, 2016, 53 year old Jeffrey Skillingstad pled guilty to two felony charges stemming from a May 2015 shooting of a painting contractor in Anchorage. Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton accepted Skillingstad’s guilty pleas to assault in the first degree and assault in the third degree and scheduled sentencing for January 17, 2017.
On the morning of May 6, 2015, a painting crew was working on a job at a condominium complex in Anchorage with 10 crew members. Skillingstad and another crew member (Johnnie Morgan) got into an argument. The other crew member’s brother (Ronnie Morgan) got involved in the argument and eventually Skillingstad walked away. Minutes later, Skillingstad walked up to Ronnie, pulled a gun, and told him he was going to kill him. Skillingstad shot Ronnie in the torso and arm and then chased Johnnie down with the gun. Skillingstad left the area without shooting Johnnie. Multiple witnesses called 911 to report the incident.
Today, Skillingstad pled guilty to one count of assault in the first degree and one count of assault in the third degree. He faces a sentence of up to 20 years for the two offenses.
Skillingstad will remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections until he is sentenced.
