About the Information & Project Support Section
The Information and Project Support Section advises state agencies on the preservation, transmission, disclosure, and destruction of information. For example, the section trains agencies on and otherwise helps agencies comply with the Alaska Public Records Act (APRA), the State Records Management Act, the Open Meetings Act, and the State’s social media policy and helps agencies negotiate agreements for sharing information. The section works with agencies to obtain electronically stored information (ESI) and to comply with requirements for preserving (e.g., through legal holds), identifying, collecting, and producing ESI. The section assists agencies in identifying protected information.
Scope of Work
Alaska Public Records Act Requests
The section processes APRA requests for Department of Law records and coordinates the search for and collection, review, and production of department records in response to such requests. The section also provides APRA training, advice, and assistance to department staff and staff of other executive branch agencies.
Matter Management, Accounting & Timekeeping
The section designs, implements, maintains, and helps attorneys and paralegals use the Civil Division’s matter-management, accounting, and timekeeping system, ProLaw. The section develops guidance documents and training plans, works with section supervisors and paralegals to develop ProLaw templates and to calendar events, and coordinates with vendors and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) on testing and applying ProLaw updates. Also, the section manages and maintains user accounts and security access.
Legal Holds & Electronic Discovery
The section operates the department’s legal hold and electronic discovery (eDiscovery) systems. In doing so, the section assists attorneys, paralegals, and other agencies’ personnel with the identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production of records. For example, the section consults with attorneys, paralegals, and other agencies’ personnel on workflow issues and best practices to help them most effectively and efficiently implement legal holds and conduct eDiscovery. The section develops policies, procedures, and training materials for all aspects of the legal hold and eDiscovery processes. Also, the section trains attorneys, paralegals, support staff, and other agencies’ personnel on the use of the department’s legal hold and eDiscovery systems, works with vendors and OIT to prevent and resolve problems, and performs quality control checks throughout the legal hold and eDiscovery processes.
Website & Publications
The section designs and maintains the department’s public website, intranet, electronic forms and publications and provides graphic design assistance to department staff.
