District Attorney
Office: Nome District Attorney's Office
Location: Nome
Job Description
The Department of Law is recruiting to fill the position of District Attorney in the Nome District Attorney’s Office to prosecute criminal cases on behalf of the State of Alaska. In this position, you would be responsible for assigning the workload, establishing office procedures and protocols, and setting the tone for the office’s relationship with law enforcement, the courts, and the public. The DA also handles a caseload in addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities. There is significant trial work, including pre-trial motion practice.
The District Attorney position requires the ability think critically and reason logically; the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; the ability to work cooperatively with outside entities; the ability to lead legal professionals in a supportive team environment; the ability to manage both the legal and administrative functions of the office; the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a deadline controlled atmosphere; and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously.
Nome is at the tip of the Seward Peninsula, overlooking the Bering Sea. Sitting very close to the Arctic, the weather will be harsh, but the country is spectacular. The Inupiaq have called it home for over 4,000 years, subsisting on sea mammals along the coast, and caribou inland. This lifestyle remains a vital part of the local culture. Today, visitors come from around the world to see the migration of over 200 species of birds or the finish of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
If you are looking for a fulfilling career in public service, this position may be for you. The salary is dependent upon your level of experience. A comprehensive state benefits package is provided. State attorneys are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will at the pleasure of the Attorney General.
