Job Description
The Department of Law is recruiting to fill the position of District Attorney in the Kodiak District Attorney’s Office. The office consists of 2 attorneys and 2 support staff. Kodiak serves all the communities on Kodiak Island. This position would be responsible for assigning the workload, establishing office procedures and protocols, and setting the tone for the office’s relationship with law enforcement, courts and the public. The DA also handles a caseload in addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
The District Attorney position requires the ability think critically and reason logically; the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; the ability to lead legal professionals in a supportive team environment; the ability to manage both the legal and administrative functions of the office; the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a deadline-controlled atmosphere; and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously.
Rural prosecution positions provide valued experience and a well-rounded knowledge of the criminal justice system throughout Alaska, both of which can positively impact promotion and future leadership positions within the Department.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
