Job description
The attorney selected for this position will advise the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal laws in the planning, environmental permitting, property acquisition, and construction contracting necessary for the delivery of a one-billion-dollar annual infrastructure development budget. The section provides considerable training and collaboration opportunities for legal services to the various transportation modes, including aviation law and airport leasing, maritime law and vessel construction contracting, and the wide array of state and federal legal requirements for delivery of roads and other linear infrastructure to underdeveloped and environmentally sensitive locations.
The novel questions that arise from project delivery in sensitive or remote locations provide regular opportunities to work with client subject matter experts to develop sound decisions and agency records, and defend those agency decisions in litigation and appellate practice. Some travel may be required.
Attorneys in the Civil Division work on matters of statewide importance, all while living and enjoying all Alaska has to offer. Qualifications
Applicants with experience in public construction contracting, transportation or utility systems, or environmental permitting are highly desired. Superior writing and oral communication skills are essential. Experience developing defensible administrative records and independent management of projects is also desirable.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
