Press Release
Anchorage Man Convicted of Sexual Assault
February 28, 2013
On February 28, 2013, 26-year-old Anchorage resident Tijuan Wyre was convicted of sexual assault and assault with a firearm by an Anchorage jury. The convictions stem from an incident that occurred in a Fairview residence on July 13, 2010.
Detectives from the Anchorage Police Special Victims Unit investigated the incident. The investigation revealed that after Wyre sexually assaulted his victim, he pointed a shotgun at her head to prevent her from calling for help. Despite this threat, the victim reported the crimes and testified at trial. The Alaska State Crime Detection Laboratory analyzed and found a DNA match to the defendant.
Based on his convictions, Wyre faces a potential sentence of 30 to 43 years in prison and faces lifetime registration as a sex offender. Sentencing is scheduled for June 14, 2013.
