Anchorage Man Convicted of Sexual Assault

On September 4, 2013, 37 year-old Matthew Alexie of Anchorage was convicted of Sexual Assault in the First Degree.
Following a two week jury trial, Matthew Alexie was convicted of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman in a wooded area off of 3rd Avenue in Anchorage in May 2011. Alexie and the woman were drinking together near the Anchorage Jail Complex when he raped her. Alexie then left the area.
The assault was reported to Anchorage Police who, led by Detective Brett Sarber, investigated the crime.
Superior Court Judge William Morse scheduled Alexie’s sentencing for February 28, 2014. Alexie, who has a 1999 conviction for Attempted Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree, faces a sentence range of 40 to 60 years.
