Anchorage Man Convicted of Sexual Assault

On November 14, 2013, 41 year old David Standifer of Anchorage was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a homeless camp near Ship Creek in April 2010.

Following a three week trial, the jury convicted Standifer of sexual assault in the first degree, two counts of attempted sexual assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and assault in the fourth degree.

Standifer assaulted the woman, punched her in the face and broke her nose before strangling her. Standifer then sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to escape to nearby Commercial Avenue, where a passersby found her bloody and without pants and called 911.

Anchorage Police responded and investigated the crime. The woman received medical attention at the emergency room and underwent a sexual assault examination.

Superior Court Judge Kevin Saxby scheduled Standifer’s sentencing for March 28, 2014. Under the presumptive sentencing terms, Standifer faces a minimum sentence of not less than 60 years to serve, and faces a maximum sentence of 99 years.
