Commercial Fishermen Convicted of Kidnapping, Assault, Burglary, and Criminal Mischief

On December 10, 2013, 22-year-old Daniel Whittington of Oregon and 38-year-old Lloyd Davis, Jr., of Alaska were convicted of kidnapping, assault, burglary and criminal mischief in an attack occurring in Chignik Bay on August 24, 2011. Following a week-long trial, a jury convicted the two men of second degree assault, kidnapping, first degree burglary, and fourth degree criminal mischief.

Whittington and Davis were two of three men involved in an attack on an 18-year-old man. The three men came onto the boat where the victim was sleeping, and began physically assaulting him. The victim was then forced from the boat onto the dock, where the men stripped him of his clothing and repeatedly strangled him with a noose. The victim was then forced to guide the three men to the house where another intended victim was sleeping. The victim was ordered to go into the house and bring out the other intended victim. When he was released into the house, the victim instead locked the door, woke up the occupants, and called the state troopers.

Superior Court Judge Steve Cole scheduled sentencing for the two men for May 19, 2014. They face a sentence range of approximately seven to 106 years. Judge Cole will determine their sentence.
