Press Release
Sentencing Scheduled for Buckland Man in Kotzebue
January 29, 2014
On Monday, February 3, 2014, 40 year old Gary Ballot will be sentenced in Kotzebue Superior Court. Ballot pled guilty in September 2013, to attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the third degree, and importation of liquor into a local option community. Ballot’s conviction results from shooting a Village Police Officer in Buckland in June 2013. The Village Police Officer contacted Ballot following a tip that Ballot was bringing alcohol into Buckland, which is a local option community.
Ballot faces a sentence of 20 to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. Superior Court Judge Paul Roetman will determine Ballot’s sentence at the conclusion of the sentencing hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on February 3.
