Anchorage Serial Drunk Driver Convicted in Glenn Highway Rollover DUI

Yesterday, an Anchorage jury found 50 year old Ronald Winters guilty of his third felony driving under the influence (DUI) offense. Winters was also convicted of reckless endangerment and driving while his license was revoked. Winters’ convictions stem from a rollover collision in January 2012 in the northbound lane of the Glenn Highway near Eagle River.

Prior to the collision, a citizen made a report known as a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) at approximately 4:45 p.m. explaining that a driver was swerving on the Glenn Highway. Winters had a passenger in his vehicle. Following the collision, Winters was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The investigation revealed that Winters had alcohol, opiates, cocaine, and methamphetamine in his system when he was driving.

Winters was convicted of a DUI on five previous occasions, including two felony DUIs. At the time of the collision, he was on felony probation and his driver’s license was revoked.

Winters is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25, 2014. He faces a sentence of three to five years in prison. Winters could be sentenced to another two years for violating his probation.
