Press Release
Anchorage Man Sentence for 2013 Fairview Shooting
November 21, 2014
On November 20, 2014, 31-year-old Elliot Hernandez was sentenced to spend 20 years in prison for a January 2013 shooting in the Fairview neighborhood that left one man wounded.
Hernandez was convicted by a jury in May 2014 of two counts of assault for pointing a handgun at an acquaintance, threatening him, then fired through the apartment door as it was being closed on him. The bullet struck a second man in the neck.
Judge Larry Card explained that the 20 year sentence was necessary because Hernandez was on probation for similar conduct at the time of the shooting. Judge Card found that Hernandez was a "worst offender" and that he needed to be in prison to keep the community safe.
