Press Release
Anchorage Man Sentenced for Molesting Teenaged Girl
December 12, 2014
Today, Judge Michael Spaan sentenced 37-year-old Carlos Valentin, Jr. to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14 year-old girl in March 2014. The sentence came as a result of Valentin's guilty plea to attempted sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree in August 2014.
Valentin molested his daughter's 14 year-old friend when she stayed at his family's home. The victim's mother learned of the abuse from her daughter and promptly contacted the Anchorage Police. The victim's mother made a victim impact statement to Judge Spaan. Valentin apologized to the court and to the victim. He admitted he hurt her and her family.
Judge Spaan sentenced Valentin to spend five years on probation upon his release. If he violates the terms of his probation, he could spend up to another four years in prison. Valentin is not eligible for early release on mandatory parole and will have to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
