Press Release
Anchorage to Get New DA Upon Sharon Marshall's Retirement
April 28, 2015
The Department of Law announced the retirement of current Anchorage District Attorney Sharon Marshall and the appointment of Clint Campion to take her place. Ms. Marshall was appointed as district attorney in 2012 and her last day will be May 1, 2015.
“Sharon’s dedication to public service and her professionalism both in the courtroom and managing the office made her an ideal district attorney,” said Attorney General Craig Richards. “In my short-time with the department, I have been impressed with Sharon’s abilities and wish her well in retirement.”
Ms. Marshall has over 25 years of experience in prosecuting cases ranging from misdemeanors to murder. In addition to Alaska, she has worked in New Jersey, Ohio and Texas as a prosecutor, and as a volunteer lawyer in the United Kingdom, helping indigent individuals with employment issues and other civil matters. Upon retirement, Ms. Marshall will have worked for 14 years in the Anchorage District Attorney’s office.
Attorney General Richards has selected Clint Campion, the current Deputy District Attorney in Anchorage, to fill Ms. Marshall’s position. After graduating from William Mitchell College of Law in 1999, Mr. Campion began his legal career with the U.S. Army JAG Corps, where he worked as a legal adviser, prosecutor, and defense counsel. This job took him across the world, including New York, Germany, Kosovo, and Kuwait. He came to Alaska in 2005 as the supervising prosecutor for the U.S. Army in Alaska. He remains a major in the Alaska Army National Guard.
In 2008, Mr. Campion was hired by the Department of Law as a felony trial prosecutor in the violent crimes and property crimes units in Anchorage. In 2011, he was appointed to head the Office of Special Prosecutions and moved on in 2013 to become the Deputy District Attorney for Anchorage.
“I am pleased to appoint Clint as the Anchorage District Attorney,” said Attorney General Richards. “Clint’s time in the JAG Corps and this department have given him the skills necessary to handle complex cases and effectively supervise a large office.”
Deputy Attorney General Richard Svobodny describes Mr. Campion as a consensus builder. “Clint excels in identifying issues; bringing the parties together and working on solutions that make every participant feel heard. This unique ability will serve the department well in reaching out to other agencies and the community,” said Mr. Svobodny.
