U.S. Army Soldier to Face Sentencing for 2012 Murder of Spouse

On January 23, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., 26 year old David Lopez will be sentenced by Judge Phillip Volland for murdering his wife, Sara Lopez, in December 2012 in their Anchorage home. A jury found Lopez guilty of murder in the first degree in June 2014. Lopez faces a sentence of up to 99 years.

On December 12, 2012, Sara Lopez took their two year old daughter to the base hospital on JBER because she was concerned about bruising on her daughter's face, neck and ear. Ultimately, the Anchorage Police and the Office of Children's Services (OCS) were notified about the child's condition and the child was ultimately taken from Sara. Sara returned home to David, who called OCS and threatened to shoot everyone at the office unless his daughter was returned. Later, David Lopez called 911 to report that he had shot his wife.

David Lopez was ultimately convicted of murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, terroristic threatening in the second degree, and resisting or interfering with arrest.
