Press Release
Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse of Child
April 6, 2015
(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – On Friday, April 3, 2015, 61 year old James Blaylock was sentenced to spend 40 years in prison for sexually abusing his step-granddaughter and for possessing child pornography.
In December 2013, a young child reported to her father that Blaylock sexually abused her. The father, who was Blaylock's stepson, called the Anchorage Police. The APD Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) responded and CACU Detective Leah Davies conducted a forensic interview with the child at Alaska Cares. The investigation confirmed that Blaylock had repeatedly sexually assaulted the child and ultimately revealed that Blaylock had taken digital photos of the child which were found on Blaylock's phone. Anchorage Police also located thumb drives belonging to Blaylock which contained hundreds of sexually explicit photographs of the child from a very young age.
Judge Michael Wolverton sentenced Mr. Blaylock to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing the child and an additional 10 years to serve for possessing child pornography. Blaylock will be placed on probation upon his release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
