Anchorage Man Sentenced for 2006 Homicide

(ANCHORAGE Alaska) – On July 30, 2015, 34 year old Richard Hunter pled guilty to manslaughter for killing Randall Roe in 2006. Hunter was originally convicted in 2009 of murder in the second degree and tampering with evidence by an Anchorage jury. Hunter was sentenced to spend 20 years in prison for his crime. 20 years is the maximum sentence for manslaughter. Hunter’s guilty plea comes as a result of a plea agreement with the State. Hunter stipulated that his crime was among the most serious manslaughter included within the definition of the crime.

Hunter’s conviction was reversed by the Alaska Court of Appeals in 2013. The Court of Appeals determined that there were “evidentiary issues” which required a reversal of the conviction for murder in the second degree. Hunter has been in the custody of the Department of Corrections since December 2006.
