Anchorage Man to Serve 7 Years for April 2015 Burglary Spree

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – Superior Court Judge Michael Spaan sentenced 24 year old Anchorage resident Shane Mike to spend the next seven years in prison for a 2015 burglary spree and a stabbing at East Anchorage residences. The sentence came following Mike’s guilty pleas in June 2015 to one consolidated count of burglary in the first degree and one count of assault in the second degree.

The Anchorage Police Department responded to a reported stabbing on April 2, 2015. The victim of the stabbing had a stab wound to the back and an apparent punctured lung. The investigation revealed that Shane Mike unlawfully entered three separate residences within an hour. Shane Mike was arrested by Anchorage Police a short distance from the residences.  He was in possession of money stolen from the residences and appeared extremely intoxicated.

At sentencing, Judge Spaan found Mike to be a “worst offender.” Judge Spaan found that Mike’s conduct had “profoundly affected people.” Judge Spaan recognized that Mike was an alcoholic and thought there was some hope for Mike because of his insight about his alcoholism and his work history. Judge Spaan determined that he needed to separate Mike from the public for a period of time and sentenced Mike to serve seven years in prison, the maximum sentence under the plea agreement.

Mike had been on felony probation for a prior burglary conviction. Mike had more than 20 prior convictions in Alaska.
