Sex Offender Convicted in 2014 Molestation Trial

An Anchorage jury today found 30 year old Arthur Hapoff guilty of sexually abusing a child in 2014. The verdict followed a seven day trial before retired Alaska Supreme Court Justice Warren Matthews. The jury found Hapoff guilty of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, a class B felony.

Hapoff was previously convicted of an attempted sexual assault from St. Paul in 2003 as well as a felony failure to register as a sex offender in 2013.

In July 2014, the six year minor victim was taken to the hospital on JBER by her parents and reported she had been sexually assaulted. The Anchorage Police responded and determined that the child should be evaluated at Alaska Cares. This evaluation led to further investigation by the Anchorage Police Department’s Crimes against Children Unit, and ultimately, the successful prosecution of Hapoff.

Hapoff will be sentence by Justice Matthews on March 22, 2016. Hapoff faces a sentencing range of 20 to 35 years in prison. Hapoff will remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections without bail pending sentencing.
