Two Anchorage Men Convicted in 2015 Strong Arm Robbery

On April 7, 2016, an Anchorage jury found 33 year old Russell Sheakley and 30 year old Conrad Claye, Jr. guilty of robbing a random victim in Fairview in October 2015. The jury also found Sheakley guilty of assaulting another random victim the same day.
On October 18, 2015, the Anchorage Police received 911 calls reporting a string of assaults in the Fairview neighborhood. One of the victims reported that he was approached by two males who demanded his groceries and beer. When the man did not comply with the demands, the two men attacked him, injuring his neck and breaking his ribs. Another victim reported that he had been randomly assaulted. Anchorage Police responded to the area within minutes and contacted Sheakley and Claye two blocks away from the site of the robbery. Both men have been in the custody of the Department of Corrections since their arrest on October 18, 2015.
The jury found Sheakley and Claye guilty of robbery in the second degree, a class B felony. As a result of their prior criminal histories, they each face a sentence of up to seven years in prison. Sheakley was also convicted of assault in the fourth degree and faces up to another year in prison. Sheakley has 41 prior criminal convictions in the State of Alaska, including 10 prior assault convictions and one prior felony conviction. Claye has 13 prior criminal convictions in the State of Alaska, including four prior assault convictions and one prior felony conviction.
Superior Court Judge Michael Corey scheduled sentencing for August 8, 2016.
