Press Release
Fairbanks Man Convicted of 2014 Anchorage Homicide
September 29, 2016
September 29, 2016 (Anchorage, AK) – Former Fairbanks resident Jerel Williams, now 28 years old, was found guilty in connection with the September 2014 shooting death of 23 year old Christopher Fulton. The jury found Williams guilty of murder in the second degree and robbery in the first degree.
On September 4, 2014, Anchorage Police received a 911 call from the resident of an apartment in East Anchorage that her roommate had been shot and was bleeding from the head. Anchorage Police responded within six minutes and found 23 year old Christopher Fulton bleeding from an obvious gunshot wound to the head. Shortly thereafter, medics from the Anchorage Fire Department pronounced Fulton dead.
Williams and his co-defendant, Samantha Herbert, fled the scene of the shooting. They abandoned Herbert’s van near Eklutna Lake Road and hitchhiked to Wasilla. They were contacted by the Wasilla Police Department on September 5, 2016 and interviewed by members of the Anchorage Police Department’s homicide unit. Williams initially denied any involvement in the death of Fulton but the subsequent investigation revealed his role.
Superior Court Judge Jack Smith scheduled sentencing for February 10, 2017. Williams faces a sentence of up to 99 years for murder in the second degree and up to 20 years for robbery in the first degree. Williams has two prior felony convictions in the State of Alaska, both from Fairbanks. Williams has been in custody since his arrest on September 6, 2014 and is not eligible for bail pending sentencing.
The Anchorage District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Anchorage Police Department for its thorough and professional investigation of Fulton’s homicide. The Anchorage District Attorney’s Office would also like to thank the responsible citizens who assisted the Anchorage Police and the District Attorney’s Office in the investigation and prosecution of Williams and Herbert. Finally, the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office would like to thank Alaska Airlines and Carrs Safeway for their assistance in the prosecution of Williams.
Fulton, originally from Cordova, Alaska, is survived by several family members and loved ones who anticipate participating in the sentencing hearing.
