October 31, 2016
(Anchorage, AK) – On October 31, 2016, 28 year old Abel Aguilar, 49 year old Jeffrey Peake, and 28 year old Daniel Vinokurov successfully graduated from Anchorage Veterans’ Court.
Abel Aguilar, originally from Texas and a U.S. Army veteran, was previously indicted for escape in the second degree, a class B felony. He was charged with escaping from the North Star Center in Fairbanks in October 2015. He faced a presumptive sentence of six to 10 years in prison if convicted of the offense. Aguilar spent five months living in the Veterans’ Administration Domiciliary in Anchorage. As a result of his successful graduation from Veterans’ Court, Aguilar is not required to serve any more time in prison. He intends to move to Texas to reunite with his child and to be a father.
Jeffrey Peake, born in Los Angeles and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was previously charged with three crimes of domestic violence stemming from a February 2016 incident that was reported through the AWAIC shelter in Anchorage. Peake remained in the custody of the Department of Corrections until his transfer to the Domiciliary in late March 2016. Peake engaged in several rehabilitative programs beginning in April 2016 and he has been employed since July 2016.
Daniel Vinokurov, originally from California and a veteran of the U.S. Army, was originally charged with misconduct involving a weapon in the third degree, a class C felony. His charge resulted from an incident in August 2015, where the Anchorage Police found Vinokurov sleeping in a residence with a loaded revolver after a resident reported concerns about the occupants. Vinokurov faced a sentence of up to five years if convicted. He was in the custody of the Department of Corrections from August 2015 until his transfer to the Domiciliary in December 2015. Vinokurov remained in the Domiciliary until his graduation from Veterans Court this week.
