Anchorage Businessman Sentenced for Not Paying Rental Car Sales Tax

On April 10, 2017, 42 year old Anchorage businessman Bart Green pled guilty to failure to pay rental car tax, a class C felony, as part of a plea agreement. Mr. Green operated Downtown Car Rental and 24 Hour Car Rental from 2004 to 2008. Mr. Green, as owner of Downtown Car Rental and 24 Hour Car Rental failed to pay the State of Alaska $140,500.95 in car rental sales tax, penalties, and interest.
Superior Court Judge Michael D. Corey sentenced Mr. Green to spend four years on probation. Mr. Green is obligated to pay the State of Alaska restitution in the amount of $140,500.95.
Mr. Green’s conviction stems from an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) of the State Of Alaska, Department of Revenue. This agency is responsible for maintaining the integrity of various Department of Revenue programs, including taxes, gaming, and the PFD, through investigation and enforcement of the various requirements of the programs.
