Michael Cunningham Convicted of Indecent Exposure
August 29, 2017
(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) On August 28, 2017, Anchorage Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton found 43 year old Michael Cunningham guilty of indecent exposure for exposing his penis in the presence of a seven year old girl in Anchorage in July 2016. Judge Wolverton found Cunningham guilty following a bench trial on August 1, 2017.
The evidence at trial showed that Cunningham was an employee at a local bookstore when he exposed himself to a seven year old girl who asked him for help finding the Harry Potter section of the bookstore. The State presented surveillance video which showed Cunningham exposing himself and masturbating in the presence of the child. The State also presented the court with certified copies of Cunningham’s two prior convictions from 2015 from the State of Oregon for the offense of public indecency.
Judge Wolverton scheduled sentencing for December 15, 2017. Cunningham faces a presumptive sentence of two to 12 years in prison. Cunningham is in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is expected to remain in custody until the sentencing hearing.
