Anchorage Man Convicted for January 2017 Robbery

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) Yesterday, an Anchorage jury convicted 32 year old Stuart Sinyon was convicted of Robbery in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, and Vehicle Theft in the First Degree. Sinyon also pled guilty to charges of driving under the Influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test after a four day trial.
On January 16, 2017, Anchorage police responded to a robbery in progress at Costco on DeBarr. Investigation showed that Sinyon stole Daniel Benton’s truck as he was loading groceries into the vehicle near the front doors. Sinyon drove away while Benton was partially hanging out of the rear passenger door of the vehicle trying to stop Sinyon. Sinyon threatened to shoot Benton during this time. Benton’s friend was hanging on the tailgate of the vehicle while Sinyon drove away. Sinyon crashed the truck into a tree in the Costco parking lot and was subsequently apprehended by Benton.
Superior Court Judge Erin Marston presided over the trial and scheduled sentencing for July 13, 2018.
