Press Release
Sixty Year Sentence for Convicted Anchorage Child Abuser
October 2, 2018
(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – On Monday October 1, 2018, Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton sentenced 38 year-old Raymond Allen Thiele of Anchorage to a sentence of 75 years in prison with 15 years suspended for sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13 years old.
Thiele previously pleaded guilty to one consolidated count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First Degree.
An investigation by the Anchorage Police Department revealed that in 2013, the six-year old victim had told her grandmother that Thiele had touched her. The evidence discovered by Detective Leonard Torres included a video on Thiele’s cell phone of Thiele sexually assaulting the six-year-old. A physical exam revealed she had a sexually transmitted infection.
At sentencing Thiele apologized for his actions. He stated that he was a sex addict and he thanked the State for removing him from society.
Assistant District Attorney Saritha Anjilvel, who prosecuted the case, expressed her appreciation to APD's Crimes Against Children Unit. "The community should be clear," she said. "We do not tolerate these horrific crimes. Those who commit them will be caught and they will be held accountable."
Judge Wolverton sentenced Thiele to seventy-five years with fifteen years suspended and fifteen years of probation. Thiele also has a lifetime sex offender registration requirement.
