(Anchorage, AK) – An Anchorage jury today found David Craig Ward, Sr. guilty of sexually assaulting and strangling his girlfriend on Christmas Eve 2018. The jury convicted Ward of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree.
The victim and Ward had been in a romantic relationship. The convictions stem from an incident on December 24, 2018 in which Ward beat and strangled the victim almost to the point of unconsciousness and assaulted the victim with a pair of scissors. The jury also found two domestic violence aggravating factors.
Sexual Assault in the Second Degree is punishable by up to 99 years in prison; Assault in the Second Degree is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Ward has an extensive out-of-state felony criminal history which includes manslaughter, robbery, and assault.
Given the aggravators and Ward’s criminal history, his presumptive sentencing ranges are 20 to 99 years on the second degree sexual assault charge and four to 10 years on the second degree assault charge.
Sentencing currently is scheduled for June 11, 2020 at 2:00 PM.
