Palmer Jury Convicts Bendt of Attempted Murder of Girlfriend
July 12, 2022
(Palmer, AK) – Yesterday, a Palmer jury convicted 33-year-old Jeremy Matthew Bendt of attempted murder in the first degree after a two-week trial. The jury also found Bendt guilty of one count of assault in the first degree, two counts of assault in the third degree, one count of vehicle theft, and one count of assault in the fourth degree.
On July 22, 2018, Alaska State Troopers responded to a cemetery in the community of Butte to assist a panicked and injured victim. The victim told Troopers she and her boyfriend, Jeremy Bendt, had an argument that escalated to an assault. The victim said she was strangled to the point of unconsciousness, threatened with a knife, and her jaw was broken. While the victim recovered in the local hospital, Bendt texted acquaintances that he was about to go to jail because “I caught [the victim] cheating and snapped.”
The defendant is being held on 100,000 cash performance, and 10,000 unsecured appearance bail at the Anchorage Jail, pending sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2022 in the Alaska Superior Court in Palmer.
Palmer Assistant District Attorney Linsey M. Burton prosecuted the case and can be contacted at lindsey.burton@alaska.gov, 907-761-5648.
