Job description
The Labor and State Affairs section at the Department of Law is seeking an effective and experienced Labor Relations Manager to lead its labor relations workgroup. Under Administrative Order No. 356, the Department of Law is responsible for negotiating and administering contracts with the unions that represent state employees. The Labor Relations Manager will:
- Implement the policy direction of the Governor and Attorney General in labor relations
- Assign work, evaluate performance, and provide direction and mentoring to four Labor Relations Analysts
- Review and recommend responses to grievances, disputes, contract interpretation questions, and other issues arising under collective bargaining agreements
- Support contract negotiations with the unions, including leading or participating in negotiations
- Manage and advise attorneys when they are assigned to assist with labor relations matters, including negotiations and arbitrations
- Report to the Labor and State Affairs Section supervisor with a high degree of autonomy
- Build relationships with the unions and other state departments that implement the collective bargaining agreements
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has exceptional communication, organization, and interpersonal skills and is excited to contribute to a collegial and growing workgroup at Law, while thinking creatively and systematically. This candidate must also be comfortable taking policy direction in adversarial and high-profile situations. Subject matter experience in labor relations, human resources, or other relevant areas is preferred.
