Job description
The core responsibilities of the PCGS Supervisor include managing the work of the section, providing legal representation and advice, and overseeing administrative duties. Clients represented by this section include the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation; Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute; Alaska Housing Finance Corporation; Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education; Alaska Energy Authority; Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority; Alaska Retirement Management Board; Division of Retirement & Benefits and Department of Education & Early Development.
Administrative, Management, and Supervision of the PCGS Section:
- Manage the work of the section by assigning, coordinating, tracking, and reviewing progress of cases and projects.
- Interact with state agency clients regarding their legal needs and the services provided by section attorneys and paraprofessionals.
- Respond to inquiries from legislators, the media, and the public about matters handled by the section.
- Prepare, submit information, and assist in defending the civil division operating budget before the legislature.
- Make recommendations to and implement directives from the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, and the Division Directors.
- Supervise attorneys, including recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, promoting, and disciplining staff.
Legal Work:
- Strategize with others on administrative and court proceedings (state, federal, or appeals), stepping in when necessary to take on cases.
- Provide day-to-day oral and written legal advice to client agencies on a broad range of issues.
- Draft authorized legislation, review and monitor bills filed by members of the legislature, and testify before legislative committees.
- Collaborate and support other attorneys in different sections within the Civil Division.
Administrative Duties:
- Track section billing to ensure that it is drawing on appropriate funds.
- Manage the leave, travel, etc. of section members to ensure adequate coverage.
- Enter time in ProLaw and prepare payroll documents.
Qualifications
A minimum of 6 years’ legal practice is required. Qualified applicants must have the ability to lead and mentor an effective team; research, analyze, and explain state and federal constitutions, statutes, regulations, and case law in laymen’s terms; as well as have excellent writing, negotiating, and communication skills; acute mental agility to quickly and accurately analyze problems and discern correct responses/solutions; and proficiency in using computer software such as MS Word, MS Outlook, ProLaw, MS Teams, Westlaw, and PACER.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
