Public Meeting Dates Announced on EVOS Reopener

(ANCHORAGE) - Attorney General David W. Márquez announced today that three public meeting dates have been set for state and federal officials to discuss the criteria for the "reopener" clause of the 1991 Exxon Valdez oil spill settlement agreement and to obtain public input on natural resource injuries and ideas for restoration projects.
Meeting locations and times have been confirmed for the following dates:

An additional public meeting will be scheduled for Seward. Information as to the specific date, time and location will be announced when it is available.
Under the "reopener" clause the state and federal governments can, prior to September 1, 2006, request Exxon to pay up to $100 million for specific restoration projects for injuries to populations, habitat or species that could not reasonably have been known or anticipated at the time the 1991 settlement agreement was signed.
Attorney General David W. Márquez, Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Kurt Fredriksson, Alaska Department of Fish and Game Ocean Policy Coordinator Heather Brandon, as well as federal representatives, will participate in these public meetings.
